Fellow Carter - The True Everywhere Mug

I know how many thermos style travel mugs from Costco you have in your cupboards and frankly it’s embarrassing. No, I’m not a psychic I just know how the vicious cycle goes.

Sees travel mug that “keeps coffee hot for 24 hours”
Buys mug and begins to use
Burns mouth on first sip
Burns mouth again on second sip 6 hours later
Dumps out coffee when it finally cools because it tastes like pennies
And repeat.

I think the problem is that most travel mugs aren’t created by specialty coffee people for specialty coffee people. They’re made to be marketed to consumers who need their coffee to last and don’t care much about how it tastes.

The Carter Everywhere Mug is the latest edition to Fellow’s impressive line of coffee products and upon first glance you can see that it fits right in. Stunning design paired with progressive technology to solve common coffee problems is just about everything I look for in my brewing equipment and it seems to be Fellow’s M.O. as well.

Forged out of double walled stainless steel to retain temperature, Carter does what you’d expect out of an insulated travel mug. It keeps hot drinks hot for up to 12 hours and cold drinks cold for up to 24. Of course the lid is also cleverly crafted to insure your drink won’t spill when you’re on the go either.

But that’s the stuff you’d expect any travel mug to do.

The team at Fellow went beyond the casual consumer’s concerns and made intentional design decisions that didn’t compromise the coffee drinking experience. After all, that is what these mugs are for.

What’s most notable to me is how Carter preserves the drinking experience that you have at home. Every inch of it is thoughtfully designed to elevate your sensory experience wherever you are.

True taste

The inside of Carter is coated with what Fellow calls “True Taste Ceramic”. The steel maintains the temperature of your coffee while the ceramic maintains the flavour. Much like your favourite mug that you drink from at home, the ceramic imparts no negative flavours (think pennies) and ensures that your coffee will taste just the way it did last time you drank it at home! (hence why it’s called the “Everywhere Mug”)

The rim that you drink from is sleek and slim, reminding me of some of the finest wine glasses I've ever sipped from. That durable rim wraps around an impressively wide mouth that isn’t without function. The wider the mouth the more aromatics you’re able to perceive as you raise your mug to take a sip. We know that smell has a dominating influence on what and how you taste, so this is imperative for your drinking experience.

Functional form

Not only is the wide mouth comfortable, it’s also convenient. It was designed to be wide enough to brew directly into using almost any brewing device imaginable! V60, Aeropress, Kalita Wave, etc. If you can name it, you can brew directly into Carter with it.

And to top it off it's just downright beautiful. True to form, Fellow can’t seem to design anything that isn’t aesthetically drool-worthy. Looks kind of like Atmos' little sibling, doesn't it?
