The all-new Tally Pro Scale from Fellow Products

Today Fellow Products dropped their most recent product for your home coffee bar, the Tally Pro Precision Scale. I’ve been using it for a few weeks already, so here are a few of my thoughts.

Like all of their products, Fellow put the Tally Pro Scale together with a keen eye for both aesthetics and functionality. Simply - it looks excellent. Its elegant matte black finish and bright OLED display lend a touch of sophistication to any brewing setup. Truthfully I didn’t love the design at first, but I’ve come to really appreciate the continuity of design having it paired with my Studio Edition kettle.

Undoubtedly it looks great, but aesthetic isn’t what truly matters. A good looking product won’t help you make better coffee, but a functional product might.

In my experience so far, the Tally Pro is incredibly accurate, and more than adequately functional as a daily scale on my home coffee bar. Not only that, it’s rapid at reading weights as well. With its remarkable precision of 0.1g, this scale ensures that no coffee bean is left unaccounted for. It’s rated for a max load of 2,500g (5.5lbs), but I’m not using it as a kitchen scale or measuring flour for sourdough with it, so I don’t find myself anywhere close to the limit.

But the Tally Pro Scale is not limited to its precision alone. It offers three thoughtful modes: Timer Mode (my preference), Weight Mode (for simple measurements), and Brew Assist Mode (for a little bit of help when you need it).

The Brew Assist Mode is a really nice addition, although I haven’t made much use of it personally. It can take the guesswork out of your morning brew when your head is still a little foggy, or it can help you along on your journey from being coffee curious to coffee ~connoisseur~.

In addition to all of this functionality, there are a few other handy tidbits to note:

  • the Tally Pro is water-resistant. Although it’s not waterproof like some espresso scales, the water resistance will ensure that any accidental spills or splashes won't hinder the scale's performance.

  • the weigh pan can be twisted off with ease for cleaning or travel. A couple shims are included in the box for travel specifically, so don’t toss those out with the cardboard!

  • this scale is also USB-C rechargeable, which is a nice touch. 13 hours of continuous use could last you up to a couple months in my estimation.

At $185USD the price is…a lot. Not in the sense that I don’t think it’s worth what it’s priced at, but in the sense that most people probably don’t have $200 to drop on a scale, or don’t need to drop $200 on a scale. It likely won’t improve the taste of your coffee by $200.

That being said, if your birthday is coming up or your family is asking you what you want for Father’s/Mother’s Day, you won’t regret unwrapping this from under the proverbial tree.

Check out the Tally Pro Precision Scale for yourself.
